Care Information

14 K Gold Pated Jewelry

Amici Jewels gold jewelry is carefully handmade with heavy-duty elastic string and 14k gold-plated beads our pieces are water-proof. However, we advise against direct contact with harsh chemicals found in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, and hot springs as it can darken the gold finish more quickly than expected.

To care for your gold-plated jewelry, gently wipe the product with a soft cloth to remove any chemicals from the surface. For cleaning, simply use a soft cloth dampened with warm water. Please note that once a piece has darkened due to exposure, we cannot guarantee restoration, underscoring the importance of ongoing care to ensure your jewelry remains beautiful for years to come.

Why is my jewelry turning my skin green?

Gold plated jewelry does contain a brass core that can rub off on the skin when exposed to sweat or water over periods of time.

Even if a person purchases an expensive piece of 14k/10k gold or silver jewelry, these prized metals can still pose potential skin discoloration problems. If you happen to be among those who are highly sensitive to the most commonly used metal alloys, like copper or nickel, you can still enjoy that ring without turning green. Here are a few tips to minimize the most common reactions with skin:

  • Wash your jewelry with a mild soap and warm water.
  • Keep your skin dry. Don’t wear jewelry when swimming or bathing. Remove rings to wash hands and dry skin thoroughly before putting rings back on.
  • Don’t wear lotion on ring finger(s).
  • Don’t wear jewelry during workouts or other activities that will result in heavy sweating.
  • Remove jewelry when using household cleansers containing bleach or wear waterproof gloves.
